Old Ottawa East, or Ottawa East, is situated between the Rideau Canal and the Rideau River. This small neighbourhood was originally the suburban community of Archville. It was incorporated as the village of Ottawa East in 1888 and became part of Ottawa City in 1907. Main Street is the neighbourhood's primary gateway, with an abundance of restaurants and shops. A strong community association is prominent, with emphasis on neighbourhood traffic, local development, neighbourhood safety, heritage, and social issues.
